Mallikarjun Patil as a Playwright:
Mallikarjun Patil is a professor essentially. He believes in the application of science. Accordingly he writes literature that is much relevant to society and that is appreciated. His creative writings both in English and Kannada are of classical nature, also being well received. His dramatic career has resulted in his writing of a dozen of plays first in Kannada. His Kannada novel Raita Kallappa (2006, 2019) was made into a film called Negiluyogi in 2012. The most popular of his staged plays are Nodkondu Hogri, Mandodari Kalyanam, Udr Maata Illa, Idu Hingyaka Aatu and others. Now his play Mandodari Kalyanam is being made into YouTube, while his drama teacher L. G. Devangamath’s Nanagella Gottaiti is also made into a YouTude program. Dr Nanda Patil Sangeet Academy has taken up this project.
Mallikarjun Patil as a Writer
Dr Mallikarjun Patil is a writer of reputation. He is a bilingual writer in English and Kannada. He has authored three novels namely When the Ground Shakes Beneath (2008), A Don in the Jungle (2008) and Under the Mango Tree (2009, now issued by Sapna, Blore, 2017). The last one has brought him name and fame. His plays like Mandodari Kalyanam (2020) are appealing. As an academician he is a scholar. His Kannada novel Raita Kallappa (2006, 2019) is too well-known as a filmed work in the name of Negiluyogi (2012). Mallikarjun Patilara Natakagalu (Plays, 2016) has ten plays most of them staged since 2012. They are like Karnad and Kambar’s plays. Patil’s travelogues like In Shakespeare’s England (2007, 2015) and its Kannada version published by Sapna, Blore in 2019 are noteworthy. His other works are Lectures (2016), Thoughts in the Air (2013) and two translations on Anna Bau Sathe and Basavaraj Kattimani for the Central Sahitya Academy are seminal works. He is a much promising writer today.
Mallikarjun Patil as the Registrar, Karnatak University, Dharwad, 2017-18
Prof Patil was the Registrar, Karnatak University, Dharwad from 24th July 2017 to 22nd Sept 2018, while Prof Pramod Gai was the popular Vice-Chancellor. Prof Patil was the most honest, non-corrupt and hard-working officer of the University. He furthered the cause of higher education. He declared more than 70 teachers’ probationary period and did 75 CAS promotions. He was university-friendly gentleman believing in belongingness, excellence and quality-education.
Important Awards, Honours and Achievements
1. Oxford Grant for attending Summer Course in English Literature 2001.
2.Rock Pebbles National Literary Award with Rs 11,111/- at Jayadeva Bhavan, Bhubaneswar on 22nd Feb 2015. The Chief Guest was Padmabhushan Ramakant Rath.
3. Registrar, Karnatak University, Dharwad 2017-18
Cinema:
The novel Raita Kallappana Aatmahatye became a play as Nodkondu Hogri and had two performances and it became the film Negilayogi and its premier show took place at Srijana, Dharwad, 14-10-2012. The film appeared for ten days at Srinivas Talkies, Dharwad in Dec 2012.
